Unidentified Drones Disrupt Airspace
The European summit in Copenhagen opened under unusual tension after Denmark reported a wave of suspicious drone activity. The sightings forced temporary shutdowns at several airports and raised alarms around military installations, prompting officials to impose an immediate ban on all civilian drone flights nationwide. Authorities said the incidents demonstrate how disruptive unmanned aircraft can be to national security.
Joint Security Effort Across Borders
In response, Denmark has been reinforced by European allies supplying anti-drone systems, early warning radars, and additional personnel. Troops from Sweden, France, and Germany have joined Danish forces to guard the event, which police described as one of the most tightly controlled summits in recent memory. While intelligence services have not identified the source of the drones, speculation over possible foreign involvement continues.
Defense Cooperation Tops the Agenda
The two-day meeting gathers members of the European Union alongside the wider European Political Community. Leaders are set to discuss regional defense priorities, with special attention to the ongoing war in Ukraine. High on the agenda is a proposed “drone wall” across Europe’s eastern flank, aimed at shielding airspace from further intrusions. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen urged participants to treat the incidents as a serious warning and to accelerate joint defense initiatives.
