Patrick Bamford has joined Sheffield United, just seven months after leading abusive chants about manager Chris Wilder during Leeds United’s promotion celebrations.
The 32-year-old striker, who left Leeds by mutual consent in August, has signed a short-term deal with the Blades until January. Despite past tension between the pair — including Wilder once calling Bamford a “muppet” in 2019 — both have moved on as United seek to boost their struggling attack.
Following the viral chant in April, Bamford and then-Leeds boss Daniel Farke phoned Wilder to apologise. Wilder later said there were “no issues,” describing the conversation as respectful.
“Sheffield United need goals, and Patrick needs games,” Wilder said this week. “It’s a good fit for both.”
Bamford, who made 18 appearances for Leeds last season, will now look to revive his career after several injury-hit years.
