Manchester City delivered a ruthless derby performance at the Etihad, sweeping Manchester United aside 3-0 to strengthen their position at the top of the Women’s Super League.
Goals from Rebecca Knaak, Bunny Shaw, and Lauren Hemp crowned a dominant first-half display as City tore through United with pace, precision, and physicality. The win sent Andrée Jeglertz’s team four points clear at the summit, underlining their growing title credentials.
For United, it was a bruising afternoon and a second straight league defeat for the first time since May 2024. Marc Skinner’s squad looked fatigued after their historic midweek Champions League win over PSG, and their thin depth was exposed.
“We gave City those goals,” Skinner admitted. “It wasn’t like they dominated us—that’s the scary thing.” The United manager insisted the title race isn’t over but stressed the need for January reinforcements.
City, meanwhile, showed no signs of tired legs. Hemp returned to the starting XI and immediately gave United problems down the right side. After early warnings, Knaak headed City into the lead from a Shaw assist. Shaw doubled the advantage from a low Kerstin Casparij cross before Hemp struck a powerful third minutes later.
United created little, failing to register a shot on target. Jess Park hit the post after coming on, but it was City who looked more likely to score again.
With wins over both Arsenal and United already this season, Jeglertz’s side have positioned themselves as frontrunners nine games into the campaign.
