Google’s AI Overviews, which appear at the top of search results and are seen by about 2 billion users each month, cite YouTube more often than any medical website when answering health-related questions, according to a new study. The research, conducted by SE Ranking, analysed responses to more than 50,000 health queries made in Germany. It found that YouTube accounted for 4.43% of all citations used in AI Overviews, more than hospitals, government health agencies, medical associations or academic institutions. YouTube is owned by Google. Researchers warned this matters because YouTube is not a medical publisher and hosts content from…
Japan is developing the L0 Series, a magnetic-levitation (maglev) train expected to reach speeds of up to 603.5 km/h, making it the fastest train ever built. The project is led by Central Japan Railway Company and will run on the new Chūō Shinkansen line. At full operation, the train is expected to cut travel time between Tokyo and Nagoya to about 40 minutes, with a future extension to Osaka reducing the Tokyo–Osaka journey to roughly one hour. By comparison, Europe’s fastest conventional trains — such as France’s TGV or Italy’s Italo — operate at around 300–350 km/h. The extreme speed…
Influencers linked to the online “manosphere” are convincing healthy young men that normal tiredness, stress or changes in libido mean they have low testosterone, according to a study in Social Science and Medicine. Researchers analysed popular posts on TikTok and Instagram, finding that routine testosterone testing is promoted as essential to masculinity, despite being medically unnecessary for most young men. The lead author, Emma Grundtvig Gram of the University of Copenhagen, said influencers often portray normal experiences as health problems, driving demand for tests and supplements. Medical experts warned that such testing offers limited insight, can lead to unnecessary treatment,…
Unique art events across the United States are bringing creativity out of traditional galleries and into public spaces, giving communities new ways to engage with culture. Programs like “Art in Odd Places” transform streets, parks, and public buildings into interactive art experiences, encouraging residents to explore creativity in their everyday environments. Organizers say these events make art accessible to everyone. By placing installations, performances, and exhibitions in unexpected locations, the programs invite curiosity and participation. Residents can encounter sculptures, performances, and interactive pieces while walking to work, shopping, or spending time in local parks. “The goal is to remove barriers…
Plants growing close together can warn one another about environmental stress, increasing their chances of survival. Experiments with thale cress showed that crowded plants activated thousands of protective genes when exposed to intense light, while isolated plants suffered severe damage. Researchers found that stressed plants released hydrogen peroxide, which passed to neighbouring plants and triggered defensive responses. This is the first evidence that this chemical can act as a warning signal between plants, allowing groups to prepare for stress collectively.
Netflix has revised its $82.7bn (£61.5bn) offer for Warner Bros Discovery into an all-cash deal, aiming to speed up approval and counter a hostile takeover attempt by Paramount Skydance. The new proposal keeps the valuation at $27.75 per share but removes shares from the structure, giving WBD investors more certainty and potentially allowing a vote as early as April. Netflix said the WBD board continues to unanimously back the deal. Under the agreement, WBD shareholders would also receive shares in a spun-off global networks business, including CNN and Discovery Channel, which Netflix is not acquiring. Paramount is pursuing a larger…
Scientists have developed a simple DNA blood test that can predict how well breast cancer patients will respond to treatment. The test analyses circulating tumour DNA in the blood and can indicate treatment success before therapy begins or after just four weeks. In a study of 167 patients with advanced breast cancer, low or undetectable DNA levels were strongly linked to better responses and longer periods before disease progression. The findings suggest doctors could avoid ineffective therapies, switch treatments earlier and personalise care. Researchers say the approach could improve outcomes and may also be applicable to early-stage breast cancer.
Political leaders from both parties gathered this week to honor Martin Luther King Jr. through a series of bipartisan events, highlighting unity and shared civic commitments. Lawmakers emphasized the importance of Dr. King’s legacy and the need to carry his vision into contemporary civic engagement. Officials said the events were designed to promote collaboration and strengthen public trust in democratic institutions. Voting rights were a central theme during the celebrations.…
Newcastle missed the chance to climb the Premier League table after a flat goalless draw at Wolves. Despite dominating possession, they lacked creativity and threat in the final third. Wolves defended with discipline and confidence, reflecting their recent improvement under Rob Edwards. Newcastle relied too heavily on crosses and set pieces, rarely troubling José Sá. Late chances fell to Bruno Guimarães and Joelinton, but a winner would have flattered the visitors. Wolves showed resilience and belief, while Newcastle exposed limits in their Champions League ambitions.
Nvidia suppliers have reportedly paused production after Chinese customs blocked shipments of the firm’s H200 AI chips, even though the processors were cleared for export by the United States. The move, reported by the Financial Times, has added fresh confusion to already strained US-China tech relations. Chinese officials have not explained whether the restriction is a formal ban or a temporary measure, but domestic tech firms were reportedly warned against buying the chips. The situation is further complicated by a US rule forcing the chips to pass through American testing facilities, triggering a 25% tariff. Analysts remain divided over whether…
