Plans to stage a Serie A match between AC Milan and Como in Australia have been cancelled.
The game was due to be played in Perth and would have been the first major European league match held abroad.
Serie A said the decision followed last-minute and unacceptable requests from the Asian Football Confederation.
Those conditions created financial risks and logistical complications that made the match impossible.
The fixture was moved because the San Siro is unavailable while hosting the Milano-Cortina Winter Olympics ceremony.
Italy’s football federation approved the relocation, and Uefa had reluctantly cleared the plan.
Serie A viewed the match as a chance to expand its global profile.
However, AFC demands, including control over match officials, derailed the proposal.
The cancellation follows a similar setback for La Liga, which abandoned plans to stage a match in the United States.
