Rescue crews and local authorities recovered five decomposed bodies 550 kilometers south of Tobruk.
The Red Crescent confirmed the remains were transported to Tobruk after being discovered in the Great Sand Sea.
Aid groups described the incident as part of the “death journey” endured by migrants crossing the desert.
Deadly Routes for Migrants
Abreen, a Libyan aid group, said the remains likely belonged to Sudanese migrants.
Photos showed decomposed clothing at the site.
Migrants continue to risk perilous overland and sea journeys from Libya, a major gateway to Europe.
In December, 61 migrants drowned near Zuwara.
In May, seven Sudanese migrants died after their vehicle broke down in the desert without food or water.
Rising Migration Pressure on Europe
The IOM estimated 787,000 migrants and refugees lived in Libya in 2024.
UNHCR said 32,400 people crossed from Libya to Europe in 2021, twice the 2020 figure.
In April, EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen proposed adding 30,000 Frontex staff to secure borders.
