Afghanistan announced that its forces killed 58 Pakistani soldiers during overnight clashes along the shared border.
Officials in Kabul accused Pakistan of repeatedly violating Afghan territory and airspace before the assault.
Earlier in the week, Afghan authorities also blamed Pakistan for bombing Kabul and a market in eastern Afghanistan.
Pakistan has not claimed responsibility for any attacks reported by the Afghan government.
Kabul Claims Major Military Gains
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said Afghan forces captured 25 Pakistani military posts during the confrontation.
He added that at least 30 Pakistani soldiers were wounded before the clashes ended.
Mujahid told reporters in Kabul that Afghan troops now fully control all official borders and de facto lines.
He claimed that Afghan forces have largely stopped illegal cross-border activity through “retaliatory and successful operations.”
The Defence Ministry warned that Afghan troops would deliver a “powerful response” to any further violations.
Regional Tensions Intensify Across the Border
Pakistan accused Afghanistan of sheltering Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan militants responsible for deadly attacks inside Pakistan.
Kabul rejected the claim, saying it does not permit any group to use Afghan soil against another country.
Pakistan continues to battle growing militancy in border regions and blames India for supporting armed networks.
The clashes raised fears of broader instability after India and Pakistan narrowly avoided war earlier this year.
Before Afghanistan’s casualty claims, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistani troops destroyed multiple Afghan posts in response.
Pakistani officials released unverified videos allegedly showing destroyed Afghan checkpoints and claimed to have “neutralised” 200 fighters.
Security forces in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa reported that Afghan troops opened fire across several northwestern border sectors.
